Officers reported they were alerted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then found many other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

An important political figure stated the attack left him without words and required to be addressed promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
